In 1972 David Crossland purchased Pendle Travel Services, a travel agency business comprising two stores in Lancashire. A second travel agency business was acquired shortly after from Albert and Ivy Roberts who had registered it using their initials, A.I.R. Tours - the Airtours name was born.
The business expanded and from the early 1980's, the My Travel Group developed package holidays to become one of the most popular holiday companies in the UK.
Following extensive renovation the company has recently moved in to the former Cooperative Society's Headquarters building in Rochdale and we were commissioned to produce a number of graphic panels by corporate interior specialists Synectic Group.
These comprised 4 large STIK graphics in the curved stairwell area on each floor, 3 large graphics in the reception area and one in the cafeteria. The installation involved us producing the largest STIK graphic we have produced to date, 9.8m x 1.8m in 10 vertical drops and applying it to a curved wall for the first time.
It took our two-man installation team just 3 days to mount the graphics, but this is considerably longer than the few minutes it will take to replace them when the time comes to add new graphic panels. STIK's magnetic mounting system makes removal and replacement of graphics a really simple operation that can be performed by non-specialist staff and requires no tools or adhesive.
The stunning images came from My Holiday's own extensive photographic archive and consisted of a Maldives desert island, extreme skiing, New York skyline, scuba diving and a MyTravel jetliner soaring through blue skies.
Staff and management working in the building were really impressed with the impact and quality of the work and the general consensus was that the graphics really lifted the atmosphere in the building and gave a high quality feel for both staff and visitors.
