Since reopening following a massive £19 million transformation, Sheffield's Weston Park Museum has received worldwide recognition, including a long listing for the prestigious 2007 Gulbenkian Prize.
Formerly the City Museum and Mappin Art Gallery, Weston Park first opened in 1875 as a place to house and display the city's collection of archaeological, natural history, decorative art and social history works and artefacts.
Unfortunately significant deterioration of the old building began to put the safety and preservation of the artistic and historic collection at risk and Sheffield Galleries and Museums Trust stepped in to organise the multi-million pound redevelopment.
When the museum finally re-opened in October 2006, the 55,000 visitors that walked through the doors in the first 15 days declared the revamp to be a success and the Museum went on to reach its visitor target for the first opening year in just three months.
As part of the interactive and creative displays we were commissioned to supply and fit wall and lightbox graphics and are justifiably proud to have made a significant contribution to this impressive project.
As well as a full and wide ranging compliment of graphic products, we were asked to dress giant 'cubes'. These irregular shaped structures needed full graphic wraps that showed no joins or overlaps. CAD mapping of the structures and subsequent IMPRESS printing to exact shapes went hand-in-hand with precise installation to ensure a stunning overall effect.
